Claire’s Legacy GT-B — Project Overview

Claire Wade's Subaru Legacy GT-B P20GTB

Claire bought her JDM 1997 Legacy GT-B in November 2007, as a fresh import to the UK.  The car is used everyday and also sees occasional track day use, and the modifications reflect this.

Specification

Vehicle: 1997 Subaru Legacy GT-B Twin Turbo (Japanese Import)
Applied Model: BG5B5CD
Date of first registration: 1st March 1997
Imported into UK: September 2007
Engine: Subaru EJ20R DWCJE (280ps @ 6,500rpm)
1994cc, Horizontal opposition 4-cylinder, 16-valve DOHC, Twin-Turbo, petrol
Performance: Acceleration 0–60mph, 5.7 seconds (claimed)
Maximum speed, 165mph (limiter removed [ 1 ])
Transmission: Five-speed manual, All-wheel drive

[ 1 ] Cars in Japan are limited to 180kph (112mph) by law, but by converting the speedometer to mile-per-hour the speed limiter will be changed from 180kph to 180mph.  With this conversion, an otherwise unmodified second-generation manual Legacy GT-B, in good condition, should be able to achieve a maximum speed in excess of 160mph.  Scooby Projects are able to perform this conversion if requested, however it is not recommended that cars with top-mounted intercoolers run above 140mph for prolonged periods as permanent engine damage may occur.
